Quality You Can Trust for Your Family

At Moola Meat, we're proud to stock Turks Free Range Chicken – a premium New Zealand product that represents everything we believe in: exceptional quality, genuine care for animal welfare, and sustainable farming practices that you can feel good about.

A Legacy of Excellence Since 1966

Turks is a family-owned business that has been raising corn-fed, free range chickens in the Horowhenua region for nearly 60 years. Their commitment to quality and animal welfare isn't just talk – it's a tradition passed down through generations of farmers who take genuine pride in producing food worthy of their family name.

The Turks Difference

Truly Free Range
Once fully feathered at around three weeks of age, Turks chickens enjoy free access to the outdoors during daylight hours. Each farm provides over 3,000 square metres of grassed outdoor space with ample shade and shelter. At night, the birds return to the barn to stay warm and safe. This isn't just "free range" on paper – it's chickens living as they should, foraging and scratching around in the grass.

Premium Corn-Fed Diet
Every Turks chicken is raised on GE-free corn, locally grown in New Zealand's sun-rich regions like Hawke's Bay and Horowhenua. This corn-based diet, combined with grains, vitamins, and minerals, creates a nutritionally balanced feed that gives the meat its signature rich, buttery texture and beautiful golden colour – a tradition borrowed from the finest European farming practices.

The Five Freedoms of Animal Welfare
Turks farms strictly adhere to the internationally recognized Five Freedoms:

  • Freedom from hunger or thirst
  • Freedom from discomfort
  • Freedom from pain, injury or disease
  • Freedom to express normal behaviour
  • Freedom from fear and distress

All farms are independently audited to ensure compliance with the New Zealand Animal Codes of Welfare and Biosecurity standards.

What's NOT in Your Chicken

No Growth Hormones
Let's be crystal clear: no chickens in New Zealand are given growth-promoting hormones. While this practice occurs overseas, it's simply not done here. Your Turks chicken is hormone-free, as verified by the Poultry Industry Association of New Zealand.

Not Genetically Modified
The chickens themselves are not genetically modified. Turks uses the Cobb 500 breed, carefully selected at one day old from New Zealand hatcheries – a naturally developed breed chosen for quality, not genetic engineering.

No Cages, Ever
Meat chickens in New Zealand are not raised in cages. Turks free range chickens live with access to extensive outdoor areas, fresh air, and natural light.

No Pesticides
The outdoor areas where chickens forage are pesticide-free, ensuring a clean, natural environment for the birds.

Independently Verified Standards

Turks commitment to ethical and sustainable practices has earned them accreditation as a Conscious Consumers supplier – connecting conscientious shoppers with businesses genuinely making a difference. Their farms are carefully monitored to ensure feed quality, hygiene, animal welfare, and environmental standards meet Turks' exacting requirements.

Local and Sustainable

All Turks Free Range Farms are located in the Horowhenua/Manawatu region, within 15km of Foxton. This means your chicken travels minimal food miles from farm to table, supporting local New Zealand farmers and reducing environmental impact.

The Turks Guarantee

As responsible food producers, Turks believes wholeheartedly that what they put in is what they get out. The welfare of their chickens isn't just a priority – it's the foundation of everything they do. Every farm is independently audited, every bird is raised with care, and every product meets some of the highest standards of quality in the industry.
